Nutrition Diary

The Nutrition Diary is a structured digital logbook that replaces paper notes, scattered spreadsheets, and forgotten measurements. It organizes your farm activity into a filterable, searchable timeline.

Three-Level Structure

The diary is organized into three levels:

1. Objects

A monitored entity — anything you want to track. Examples:

  • A crop: “Tomato Rack #3”
  • A reservoir: “Main Tank”
  • A greenhouse section: “NFT Channel A”
  • Any custom item

Each object has:

  • Name and description
  • Category (Crop, Reservoir, Greenhouse, Custom)
  • Health status (🟢 Healthy, 🟡 Warning, 🔴 Critical)
  • Growth stage tracking
  • Archive capability for completed cycles

2. Logs

A single diary entry attached to an object. Each log has:

  • Date and time (can be back-dated)
  • Optional title for quick identification
  • One or more blocks containing the actual data

3. Blocks

A structured piece of information inside a log. Four types cover all recording needs:

Block Types

📊 Measurements Block

Record quantitative readings:

FieldUnitNotes
ECmS/cmElectrical conductivity
pH—Acidity level
Water LevelL/galCurrent volume
Temperature°C/°FAir or solution temperature
Humidity%Relative humidity
Drain ECmS/cmRunoff conductivity
Drain pH—Runoff acidity
Drain VolumeL/galRunoff volume

Sensor Integration: When hardware is connected, click the sensor icon next to any field to pull the live reading directly — no manual typing required.

🧪 Actions Block

Record structured activities with 12 action types:

ActionKey Fields
EC CorrectionEC before, EC after, Solution A/B amounts, cost
pH CorrectionpH before, pH after, corrector used, amount
Water AdditionVolume added
Solution ChangeFull or partial, new solution details
Pest ControlProduct, dosage, application method
Plant TrainingType (topping, LST, defoliation, etc.)
TransplantingFrom/to container, medium
Sensor CalibrationSensor type, calibration points
HarvestWeight, quality notes
Deficiency TreatmentElement, product, dosage
Foliar SprayProduct, concentration
Program ControlStart/Stop/Restart/Pause automation programs

Each action type has its own structured fields to ensure data consistency.

👁️ Observations Block

Record qualitative assessments:

  • Health Status — Traffic-light assessment (🟢 🟡 🔴)
  • Growth Stage — Select current stage from predefined list
  • Problem Tags — Tag specific issues (nutrient burn, yellowing, wilting, root rot, pests, etc.)
  • Media upload — Attach photos (future feature)

📝 Notes Block

Free-text notes for anything that doesn’t fit the structured types:

  • Reminders and to-dos
  • Hypotheses and experimental observations
  • Links to external resources
  • General commentary

Timeline View

The log timeline provides:

  • Chronological listing of all logs for an object
  • Filter by block type — Show only entries with measurements, actions, etc.
  • Filter by date range — Narrow to specific periods
  • Free-text search — Find any keyword across all blocks
  • Expandable rows — Click to see full block contents inline
  • Edit tracking — System timestamps with modification history

Sensor Integration

When CeresFlows hardware is connected:

  1. Map sensors to objects — Associate a pH sensor with “Main Reservoir”
  2. One-click reading — Click the sensor icon in a measurement field to pull the live value
  3. Automatic attribution — The reading is automatically linked to the correct object

This works for all sensor types: EC, pH, temperature, humidity, flow rate, and more.

Note: Sensor integration requires connected CeresFlows hardware. The diary works fully without hardware — all values can be entered manually.
